Miss Pettit
Phase Leader EYFS / Year 1 Teacher - 1ZP
I have been at Webheath since 2020, but have been teaching for many more years than I can remember, in both small and large settings. I really enjoy learning in the outdoors and going down to the forest. I enjoy inspiring children to read following my own love of reading. I love animals and can often be found visiting animals at the weekend. My favourite animal is a penguin. Reception is such a great year, and I look forward to meeting each new cohort and learning in fun and exciting ways.
Miss Moseley
Year 1 Teacher - 1EM
I am a year 1 teacher at Webheath and began teaching here in April 2023. I have been a teacher for 6 years and have worked with children in all year groups across the primary setting. I am passionate about music and currently lead music here at Webheath. Outside of school, I am a musician and play flute, saxophone, piano and love to sing too. I have been a part of many different choirs, orchestras and bands throughout my life and love passing on my knowledge to the children I teach.
Mrs Battey
Teaching Assistant Year 1
I have worked with children in Education for over 20 years, having been at Webheath for 10 of those. I enjoy spending time with my family and walking in the Lake District.

Phonics
We follow the Sound!Start Phonics Scheme started in Reception and build up on the phonemes already taught following the DfE approved scheme.
Reading
In school we have focused sessions daily and reading fluency is developed through ‘Book Club’. The books they read are closely matched to their phonics ability and we do not follow a colour coding scheme, but the phonemes being developed. In addition, you can access their weekly Oxford Owl ebook online which matches their phonetic ability to celebrate their reading practise throughout the course of the week in ‘Book Club’.
The children will continue to bring home a weekly ‘reading for pleasure’ book for you to share and enjoy with your child.
Homework
Weekly handwriting practice will be sent home, either on Seesaw or through paper copies. Any completed handwriting can be uploaded to Seesaw. These tasks are optional.
Maths
We follow a Mastery approach and White Rose maths as a basis for our teaching. We use manipulatives to explore the world of maths around us and to help us understand and reason. We continue to use ten frames introduced in Reception and learn to count in multiples of two’s, fives and tens.
